Trio facing numerous charge after drug bust

Three people, including two Hay River residents, are facing numerous charges after police conducted a search warrant on a home in Hay River’s Old Town last week.

Six officers, including members of the Hay River RCMP Detachment along with members of the RCMP’s “G” DIvision Drug Section and Gang Unit, as well as the police service dog unit executed the warrant at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Feb. 23. During a search of the home officers found one pound of marijuana, two pounds of mushrooms, a small quantity of cash and drug paraphernalia including bongs and marijuana pipes. Four people were arrested and taken into custody.
“They got a significant amount of drugs,” Sgt. Wayne Norris of RCMP Media Relations said from Yellowknife. “Two pounds of mushrooms is significant.”
Tyson Caudron-Bakker, 22, and Josh Tyler, 21, of Hay River, and Ashley Rosso, 22, of Edmonton are facing charges of possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking, trafficking in a controlled substance, and possession of property obtained by crime. The trio will make their first appearance in Hay River Territorial Court on May 5.
Norris said the search warrant was part of RCMP’s drug strategy.
“We’re working with the detachments like Hay River to make an impact on the illicit use and sales of street drugs,” Norris said. “It’s obviously making an impact.”
