Hay River man dies in Alberta stabbing

A Hay River man died last week after a stabbing incident on the Enoch First Nation just west of Edmonton.

Vern Donald Derocher, 40, was found with several stab wounds after the RCMP was called to a house on the reserve just after 4 a.m. on April 2.

He was rushed to the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton where he was later pronounced dead.
According to Stony Plain RCMP Const. Barb Roy it is unknown was provoked the stabbing, and an investigation is ongoing.
“I do know he has family in Edmonton,” she said, “and has been known to visit the area.”
The Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Enoch RCMP are still investigating along with the Edmonton Forensic Identification Unit and the K Division Major Crimes Unit. No one has been arrested at this time, and the RCMP is working to identify a suspect.
