RCMP investigating local vehicle theft

Members of the Hay River RCMP Detachment are looking for information following the theft of a pickup truck, two snowmobiles and one quad from a business on Vale Island over the weekend.
Const. Justin Sharpe said officers were called to Wind Dancer Contracting’s yard at 36 101 Street in Old Town at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday afternoon following a report of stolen vehicles. A 1999 Ford F250 truck, two 2008 Skidoo Tundra 300 snowmobiles, and a 2003 Bombardier Quest Quad had been taken from the property. The quad and snowmobiles were located a short time later in the nearby woods near the facility. The quad had been spray-painted.

Sharpe said the truck was found undamaged in a wooded area near the Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation plant on Monday morning.
Spray paint also covered various buildings on both the Wind Dancer property, as well as Midnight Petroleum’s nearby lot. Fire extinguishers had also been set off on both properties.
“There was no permanent damage,” Sharpe said Monday morning. “It was just spray paint and vandalism.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the Hay River RCMP Detachment at 874-1111 or Crimestoppers, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
