A series of abandoned apartment buildings caught fire Saturday morning in what the Hay River Fire Department is calling a case of arson. Firefighters responded to a call around 6 a.m. to find the complex, located North of the Bigway Gas Station, in flames. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the complex was extensively damaged. Local man charged with manslaughter

A Hay River man has been charged with manslaughter after an alleged altercation at a local bar. Mark Larsen, 28, has been charged in the death of 50 year-old Brent Darrell Nixon. He appeared in court on Aug. 18 in Yellowknife, where he was released on bail by Judge Robert Gorin.

This year marked the second annual Fort Smith Slopitch Tournament, and the turnout far surpassed that of the inaugural year.
