A local man has been pronounced dead after police responded to a call at the Royal Canadian Legion early Saturday morning.
Fifty year-old Brent Darrell Nixon was found by police just after 1 a.m. Saturday morning after they responded to a call for service to an unresponsive male.
According to Sgt. Wayne Norris, spokesman for the RCMP, Nixon was taken to the H.H. Williams Memorial Hospital after efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The RCMP have contacted the major crimes and forensics units, and an investigation is ongoing in conjunction with the Hay River detachment.
“At this point in time it is seen as unusual activity,” said Norris. “It is suspicious.”
RCMP are asking for the public’s cooperation with this investigation.
***UPDATE*** According to CBC News, a local Hay River man has been charged with manslaughter in the incident. He is scheduled to appear in a Yellowknife court on Wednesday in connection with the death of Brent Darrell Nixon. Click here to read the story on www.cbc.ca.
