HR plays host, PA cleans up at Elks soccer

Hay River was bustling this weekend as youth soccer teams from across the territory met for the annual Elks Soccer Tournament.
The weather conditions were ideal for the 30 teams who met across town, hoping to finish at the top.
Classes ranged from the 10 and under age group to the 19 year olds, but everyone was there for the same purpose – to have some fun playing soccer.

The Princess Alexandra 10-U Girls team ranked at the top, being the only girls team to enter the category.
The PA Boys beat out Ecole Boreale in the same age group.
The Rae Edzo and Ecole Boreale girls battled it out for the 12-U title, with Rae beating out the local team 3-1.
The boy’s 12-U group saw an interesting match-up as two teams from Princess Alexandra competed for the banner.
The PA2 team swept away the PA1 team with a final score of 8-2, keeping the game competitive, yet fun among friends.
The 14-U boys matchup saw Yellowknife’s St. Patricks against Fort Simpson, with St. Pats blowing away their opposition with a 6 – 1 win.
But the Fort Simpson girls in the same age group managed to pull ahead in their division, beating out the team from Fort Smith in a 4-2 final.
Both Diamond Jenness teams finished up right behind in third and fourth place.
None of the Hay River teams made it to the finals during the 19-U boys and girl’s finals on Sunday afternoon.
St. Pats took the 19-U girls title after a close game against Fort Smith. The girls had to enter a sudden death shootout to determine a winner, and St. Pats walked away with a 5-4 win.
Fort Smith also faced defeat in the boy’s division, after being beaten out by Sir John ‘A’ from Yellowknife. Fort Smith lost by one goal, the only one scored throughout the game.
