Hay River Boil Water Advisory Rescinded

The Chief Environmental Health Officer is advising residents of Hay River that the Boil Water Advisory, in effect since May 19, has now been lifted.

Conditions have returned to normal and Hay River’s municipal drinking water is safe to drink. However, if conditions worsen, the Boil Water Advisory may be reinstated.

For now, residents are advised to resume normal usage of their water system after following instructions below:

Flush all water taps and fixtures for at least one minute or until there is no cloudy water present.

  • Run all cold water faucets and drinking fountains for one minute;
  • Drain all cisterns and flush with water;
  • Drain and flush the ice maker in your refrigerator;
  • Run softeners through a regeneration cycle;
  • Drain and refill hot water heaters.

Residents on delivered or trucked water will need to clean their water storage tanks if they had water delivered during the Boil Water Advisory. Instructions for tank cleaning are available here:
