This was the experience Matt Maurice had over the weekend, getting a hole-in-one on the first hole at the shoot-out tournament over the weekend at the Hay River Golf Course.
Over 80 people were registered in the tournament this past weekend, looking for a chance to win, just by sinking the ball with one swing.
Each of the tee boxes were moved up to a par 3, making the odds possible for each of the participants.
The cool winds and cloudy skies on Saturday were replaced by sunshine on Sunday and with it, two lucky golfers were given the opportunity to win a cheque for proving their skill.
But it was Maurice who, on the first hole of the day, managed to sink the ball no problem, and is now $10,000 richer.
“I was really shocked,” he said of the hole-in-one. “And really nervous.”
After sinking the ball, he and his golf-mates proceeded to react in a way that could only be seen as natural after winning a cheque for that amount.
“They were jumping and screaming, well, we all were,” he said.
“And giving each other high fives.”
