Local store employees told Hay River Hub on March 13 the store would remain open.
Tiffany Bourre, external communications manager for Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC), said, “Fields has entered into a tentative agreement with FHC (Fields Holding Company) to acquire the leases of 37 Fields store locations, with the opportunity to assume another 22.”
She said the Hay River location is included in the 22 locations still under consideration and that HBC is working with FHC to finalize the agreement.
Bourre explained that FHC was a company created specifically for the transaction by Jason McDougall, owner of the McFrugals Discount Outlet stores and a group of long-time retailers and investors.
It was announced in February that all Fields locations in Canada, including the two NWT locations, would be shut down by the fall of 2012 to allow HBC to focus on expanding their other banners, including The Bay, Lord & Taylor and Home Outfitters.
Prior to the announcement, there were a total of 167 stores across Canada.
McDougall could not be reached for comment by press time.
