A floor replaced ice last week as ball hockey returned to the Hay River arena.
Ball hockey league games started on April 10.
With two games per week throughout the remainder of the season, the league has returned with more options for drop-in players. In past years, not everyone would get a chance in the rotation because there were too many players and not enough nets.
This year, they’ll have extra nets available and potentially hold two games at a time, said main organizer Steve Campbell, noting league numbers have doubled since planned games began three years ago.
“It’s been awesome every year since we started,” said Campbell. “For two hours’ worth of playing time, you are getting your money’s worth.”
Although last week’s numbers were scant, they are expected to pick up now that spring break has ended and there is a lull in seasonal activities.
Ages 16 and up are invited to play at the recreation centre. Ball hockey is no contact, no fighting.
Ball hockey runs Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7-9 p.m., from April to July.
Schedules and rules can be found in the lobby of the Don Stewart Recreation Centre.
