Hay River recently hosted a group of six RCMP officers from the northern region of the NWT, along with a Mountie from Alberta and one member of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, Hay River Unit, for a week of marine search and rescue training on Great Slave Lake.

Some of them are a little rusty,” said Jack Kruger, RCMP ‘G’ Division’s search and rescue (SAR) co-ordinator. “For some of them, this is their first introduction to boats.”

The course started on June 17. It will also be held for groups from the South Slave and central regions in the following two weeks.
