Teams from the initiation, novice and atom levels of Hay River’s Minor Hockey Association took to the ice against a team made up of RCMP members, firefighters and correctional staff last week to kick off the start of the police detachment’s annual toy drive.
“It’s a great game,” said Special Const. Steve Beck, noting that it takes something pretty unique to get him on the ice for the first time in nearly a decade.
Although the drive continued over the weekend, the charity game itself netted a total of $497 and dozens of toys to be handed out during the holiday season.
