Students see drilling up close

Aliyah (Lexi) Capulso, left, of Diamond Jenness Secondary School, and Doug Makynen, a drill foreman with Foraco Canada Ltd., watch exploration drilling at Pine Point for Darnley Bay Resources Ltd.

A group of Grade 8 students from Diamond Jenness Secondary School got an up-close look at mineral exploration on May 15.

The students boarded a bus that morning and headed off to a drill site at Pine Point, about 70 kilometres to the east and about five kilometres north of Highway 6 to Fort Resolution.

There, they were hosted by representatives of Darnley Bay Resources Ltd. and heard an explanation of how the company is exploring the site, which previously supported a zinc and lead mine operated by Cominco Ltd. between 1964 and 1987.
