Hay River athletes travelled to different sections of the territory to try to earn their spot on Team NWT for the upcoming Arctic Winter Games. In Hay River, biathlon and men’s hockey try-outs were ongoing while figure skating, dog sledding, volleyball and women’s hockey were all taking place in Yellowknife.
The annual Itsago dog races took place this past weekend in Enterprise, however the second day of the event was cancelled. The high afternoon temperatures, mixed with the overnight lows, caused parts of the track to become hardened with ice, which is tremendously hard on the dogs paws. A Dec. 8 collision between two trucks near McNally Creek, 20 km north of Enterprise, has left one man dead and two injured. The collision occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m., when an empty southbound RTL Robinson Enterprises Ltd. tanker collided with a northbound Manitoulin Transport truck filled with the Fort Simpson grocery load.
